Despite the locals partying til about 5 am outside the window, I got a great night's sleep. I was in a comfy bed and not in a sleeping bag, so I was delighted. Plus I only had one roommate, non snorer. :) This little treat was quite a wise decision.
In the morning I went to mass at the cathedral. The main door was closed, but I spied a local going to the side, so I followed. I still have difficulty praying in English with the congregation speaking in Spanish but I know what is going on. :)
The Russian gal was still in the square when mass was over so I collected my bag and checked out. I met her at a cafe and there was a groups of pilgrims, so breakfast was ordered. Some were staying and some were leaving but it was all very relaxed. We didn't leave until 10:45, my latest departure yet perhaps. Maybe Burgos was just as late...
Much of today was spent exiting the city into what seemed like suburbs, then along the highway. We did make a short diversion to a park with all sorts of birds, including peacocks wandering around. Overall, it was definitely one of the more developed, industrial-feeling days.
I stopped in San Martin and the Russian gal went one town further. I didn't arrive til close to 5pm, my latest arrival yet! Despite feeling quite rested and rejuvenated when I started, my feet did let me know if was time to stop after 26k today.
The first albergue had no pilgrims. While part of me was excited at another quiet night, I did want to spend some with my fellow peregrinos, so I walked just a bit further and saw some familiar faces. This albergue has the only restaurant in town, so even more familiar faces joined for dinner.
All in all, it was a good day connecting with friends. I spent the first few weeks walking mostly in solitude, but it has been nice to have some great conversations to pass the time as we walk.
On to Astorga tomorrow!
