Today 6 of us started out at first light, under the threat of rain. We had packed our sandwiches and midget beers and were on our way. We stopped at 9 for a beer break, because we are on our last days as pilgrims and have walked over 500 miles, so we can. Eventually the day turned into beautiful sunshine and gave way to rainbows.
The path was a mix of forest and asphalt, which was a nice path. In the afternoon we came across a town with a huge lake. (I had the urge to yell out "I see the lake!" but seeing as none of my family was around, I figured no one would understand this inside joke.)
Today seemed long. It was the largest group I have walked with and while it didn't seem like our stops were long but we didn't finish the 33k until nearly 4pm. We cleaned up and ate dinner a few hours later. Another "last supper," as I am going to walk a different way from the group tomorrow so I can go to Muxia first. It is overall 2.5k shorter and seems to make more sense in the breakdown of days. Plus I have heard it is a nicer walk this route. The final deciding factor was that the kilometer marker in Finisterre is 0, marking the end of the journey. I would rather have that marker on the true last step that I take in Spain.
So today was another day of goodbyes, though I believe I will see my American friends again. I have a 29 km day ahead, probably alone. Everything has come full circle. Walking into Santiago had fog like my first day and I'll finish my walk alone in two days, just like I started.
